Industrial Water Disinfection

Industry requires vast amounts of water to produce everyday goods, and water is often treated before and after industrial processes to ensure pristine production standards and environmental compliance. Glasco UV proudly manufactures a range of American-made industrial water UV disinfection systems at our Mahwah, NJ manufacturing facility.

From microchips to tortilla chips, nearly every good requires water usage at some point during the manufacturing process. According to the EPA, the United States uses 18.2 billion gallons of water daily from private sources, and industrial and manufacturing businesses use about 12 percent of the public water supply.

Most of this water must be treated in some form to minimize financial and health risks and to optimize product quality and sustainability. Treatment options include filtration, softening, and de-alkalinizing systems.

For processes that require contaminant removal, UV industrial water disinfection offers a practical solution that limits costly chemical usage while promoting safety and sustainability.

Disinfection Systems

Glasco UV water disinfection systems meet a range of industrial needs for small and large flows and a variety of applications, including liquid sugar disinfection, cooling tower water treatment, and aquaculture and fish water disinfection. The systems are constructed from high-grade stainless steel (316L) and can be configured and sized for Total Oxidizable Carbon reduction (TOC) and Ozone Destruction (OD). They can easily integrate into diverse facility networks and come equipped with remote control options.

Water Disinfection

UV disinfection reduces microorganisms in industrial water and wastewater applications. Our UV disinfection systems are built in our facility from premium materials, including high-grade stainless steel, and electropolished to ensure high purity and longevity.

  • The IL series uses a “Bullet” or “L” style chamber to treat a range of flow rates.
  • The IL-HF series is designed to treat flows exceeding 50 gallons per minute.
  • Perfect for laboratories and research projects, the IL-HT-LAB and IL-HT series treat low flow rates up to 50 gallons per minute.
  • The NONCON series allows for the treatment of low UVT liquids which are sometimes found in industrial applications. The water flows through FEP tubes that are inert and will not foul. Flows can be treated up to 12MGD.
TOC Reduction

Traditional filtration techniques do not always remove the total amount of organic compounds (TOC). UV light effectively destroys organic compounds by creating hydroxyl radicals that can break chemical bonds. Our UV water disinfection systems can also be sized and configured for TOC reduction in industrial applications.

While our disinfection systems use low-pressure UV lamps in the 254 nm range, our TOC systems use low-pressure UV lamps in the 185 nm range.

Ozone Destruction

UV light is an essential tool for ozone destruction (OD) in industrial water and wastewater applications, including food & beverages, biotech, and pharmaceuticals.

Glasco’s UV water disinfection systems can also be sized and configured for OD. UV lamps in the 254 nm range destroy ozone, transforming the molecule (O3) into H2O.

Liquid Sugar Disinfection

Our liquid sugar (IL-LS) UV disinfection systems disinfect liquid sugar, including opaque and thick liquids, syrups with high osmotic pressure (Brix 25-67), and glucose. While used primarily for liquid sugars, the IL-LS systems have also proved effective for treating fruit juices and pharmaceutical base liquids.

Designed to treat liquids in a thin film manner at flows ranging from .25 to 150 gallons per minute, the IL-LS systems use tightly spaced lamps to expose the liquid to high doses of UV energy. Higher flows can be engineered with our UV design team.

Explosion Proof

The IL-EXP series is designed for oil and gas rig UV disinfection applications used in hazardous environments requiring UV. These units use gas purge technology, which allows for the system to shut down in the event of gas pressure loss. Each IL-EXP can be customized to meet a variety of hazardous classifications.
