Catharine Valley Water Reclamation Facility
July 2020

As part of a collaborative initiative called Project Seneca, a new $32 million regional wastewater treatment plant, the Catharine Valley Water Reclamation Facility (CVWRF), is now operational, serving the villages of Watkins Glen and Montour Falls, NY. Since the 1960s, these villages had operated separate wastewater treatment plants, both struggling to meet modern discharge standards due to outdated technology and aging components. These facilities were adversely affecting water quality in Seneca Lake, and the limitations of the aging infrastructure were hindering economic growth and development in the region.

Retrofits are never easy. A concrete channel deteriorates over time, as built drawings may be incomplete, and working with existing power can be a challenge. A manufacturer and their local representative have to team up using strong engineering principles and deliberate field work in order to provide the client a solution that will modernize the disinfection at their plant while remaining in budget with little down time in the process. In 2017 Glasco UV and Haynes equipment partnered up with the town of Carthage, Missouri to replace their existing IDI Vertical UV system that was installed in 1998.
